Approach to Therapy
Kevin works from a trauma informed model utilizing practices appropriate to each individual client’s needs.
In addition to specializing in the treatment of male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, he also works with men who’ve experienced sexual assault as an adult and/or military sexual trauma (MST), Post-traumatic Stress, and complex Post-traumatic Stress as well as other men’s issues.
Kevin’s therapy style, though generally person-centered, gravitates towards integrating:
Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Inner Child Work: Helping to identify the “parts” that took on burdens to help each individual man to survive, and helping their Core Self lead the way to healing.
Exposure Therapy: Facing the shadows of the past in a controlled, safe environment to reduce the power of triggers and flashbacks.
Narrative Therapy: Examining and re-authoring life stories so that trauma is a chapter of the past, not the definition of the future.
Gestalt Therapy: Using the present to actively experience life and the interconnection of thoughts, emotions, and physical experience in the now.
Psychodynamic Therapy: Uncovering deeper, unconscious roots of current challenges by exploring the past and how it’s played a part in present feelings, thoughts, and self-identity.
“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” — Abraham Maslow
